The season of Advent and Christmas is one of hopeful expectation and celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s when we celebrate that God is Emmanuel; literally, “God with us.”
Or, “God moved into the neighborhood,” as the late Eugene Peterson so thoughtfully translated it.
It’s the joyful reality that God does not leave us alone.
And it’s a reminder that as we each seek to follow Jesus, we do so by following him into a relationship with our neighbors, co-workers, family members… and even our enemies.
We enter into these relationships in order to share the Good News of Jesus – through word and deed.
This is the task for all Christians. And it is a task that each Campolo Scholar takes seriously as they dedicate themselves to and prepare for a life of Christian service and ministry.
Let us give thanks together this Christmas for our God who loves us so much, that he “moved into the neighborhood.” And may we remember to follow his example and love others well.
Thank you, dear friend of the Campolo Center for Ministry, for being a part of this neighborhood with us. Merry Christmas!
With gratitude and hope,
Robert Gauthier
